Day 5/21 - Less of Me, More of You

You did it! You made it to day 5 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting Journey! Here's the good news: we're just getting started. To help you on this journey, we have provided a prayer guide to help guide you. You can access it here. Our daily devotional is modeled after the "First 15". This is a habit we want to create that takes the first 15 minutes of your day and dedicates it to spending time with the Lord.

5 Minutes - God's Word
Matthew 6:16-18
Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
In the Book of Matthew, Jesus addresses His followers and gives them the expectation that they would practice the spiritual discipline of fasting. During this 21 day journey, you may have felt a little intimidated by the fasting portion. We want to help you in this area! Here's our why: when we fast, we deprive ourselves of "earthly" distractions so that we can lean into God even more deeply and seek Him like never before with a clear mind and heart. This might mean leaving your comfort zone of scrolling social media, eating sugar and processed foods, binge watching Netflix, or whatever it may be for you! Fasting doesn’t serve to change God’s mind, speed up His answer, or manipulate His will. Instead, fasting helps us focus our attention on God, so that we can worship and listen with a greater intensity. It deepens our relationship with Him, that is otherwise difficult to cultivate in our overly stimulating, nonstop world. This is why we fast, denying ourselves of food, drinks or other things we "love" or "need" to better able fix our eyes and center our hearts on Jesus! God wants use this time to intensify our desire for more of Him, reveal His will, increase our understanding and peace and so much more! Do you want to see God move in awesome ways? Do you want to experience more of His peace, presence and power in your life? Use this time of prayer and fasting to draw close to God like never before and He will draw closer to you! Examine and search your life of the things you can remove and leaving you with more time and space available for God to fill!

5 Minutes - Prayer (can be read aloud)
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for all that you do for me. I pray that during this time of fasting, you would help me search my heart and my life and remove the things that dont please you so I can make space in my life for more of You! I want to experience your peace, presence and power in my life like never before in 2020. Use me to make a difference. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Thank you for reminding me to be more aware of my distractions. Although I do not frequently visit social media, I keep myself busy with other tasks. I will refrain from those tasks during this time. Lord help me to focus on You; less of me and more of You. In Jesus name. Amen.

Good morning, it was so hard last night to fight the urge eat something, I believe the flesh was wining and my spiritual man stood up and put it under subjection. Thank God for this ministry and the renewing of my personal relationship with God. Hang tough saints.
